Welcome!

This blog was created in honor of Khan, the Warrior Cat, to provide his fans with updates and information on his progress. Khan was rescued by Shadow Cats in Round Rock, Texas in 2006, after being hit by a car and found wandering the highway. He underwent several surgeries performed by Dr. Roy Smith at the Central Texas Cat Hospital to restore his smashed jaw, remove his damaged eye, and restore mobility. He still had damaged ears from years of infections, neurological problems, only two teeth, and spinal injuries that affected his gait, but he had a great spirit. He got to know many people, and many others heard his story, during the time he stayed at Shadow Cats and the two years during which we were blessed to have him in our home. This blog is dedicated to them, to all of those involved in his rescue, and to anyone who has helped a cat in desperate need.

Khanvention!

Ok, the title is a little misleading and a little too "70's Batman Series" (especially if I keep doing it). But I am at a convention this weekend--FenCon in Dallas, a Literary Fantasy & Science Fiction Con. Much of the focus is on books and authors, and they even have a writing workshop that I was too late to participate in. There are also fans of, and events related to other SF-related media at the Con. And one thing I've learned about SF/Fantasy conventions--the fans are (mostly) cat lovers. There is always wonderful cat-themed art at the art auctions, and today I put a bid on some gorgeous prints by artists Nicole Pellegrini and Sarah Clemens. I doubt I'll get them on my first bid because the "cat stuff" is always very popular at the auctions. What's kind of a drag is that you can put a bid on an item during the "silent" part of the auction, but if there are more than 2 or 3 bids it goes to a live auction where anyone can outbid you, even if they didn't bid on it before. But it's for charity, so I won't complain too much. What I would like to complain about is that it's 10pm and the guy in the room next door keeps making loud speaker-phone calls, and my room smells like sweaty socks. It's actually a nice hotel; I just happened to get the sweaty sock room. Husband and kiddo are on cat duty this weekend!
