Welcome!

This blog was created in honor of Khan, the Warrior Cat, to provide his fans with updates and information on his progress. Khan was rescued by Shadow Cats in Round Rock, Texas in 2006, after being hit by a car and found wandering the highway. He underwent several surgeries performed by Dr. Roy Smith at the Central Texas Cat Hospital to restore his smashed jaw, remove his damaged eye, and restore mobility. He still had damaged ears from years of infections, neurological problems, only two teeth, and spinal injuries that affected his gait, but he had a great spirit. He got to know many people, and many others heard his story, during the time he stayed at Shadow Cats and the two years during which we were blessed to have him in our home. This blog is dedicated to them, to all of those involved in his rescue, and to anyone who has helped a cat in desperate need.

Here's The Scoop: Khan's Checkup

The vet called today with test results. First, the stool sample was fine. However, he does have an ear infection and must have an oral antiobiotic for two weeks, as well as a silver sulfadiazine solution dropped into his ear every 8 hours (tricky when you work 8-5). It's the same cocktail he had for the last couple of infections that cropped up. He gets very hard-to-kill bacteria in there.

When I picked up the prescriptions after work today, I also purchased a large bag of the Purina special diet. Very expensive. A small, 4-oz bag was $22. I got a large bag, but because they had messed up on getting the one I wanted, they offered to give me a large bag for the small bag price. So I'm going to have to sequester Khan for his meals, as I can't afford to let all 4 cats eat it (even though they are allowed to, the vet said; it's just easy-to-digest food). The others get Science Diet. Nova, however, seems to also love the Purina, and has been trying all kinds of tricks to sneak by me and get to it before Khan. She only likes it so much because I am denying it to her. She's that kind of cat. :-)

We have to go back in two weeks for a recheck.

Our sweet little Khan Boy. It just never ends does it? Please keep us all posted on his recheck.
I found it very interesting about his affinity for soft rugs!

He is definitely a character! He got extra love and attention last night after getting his first pill and ear drops. It made him a little tired.
