Last night we attended a fundraiser for Shadowcats, and it was lots of fun! FeralFriend had asked us to create a posterboard display of photos showing Khan at home, which we did, and brought it with us. My daughter also made a paper on which comments to Khan could be written (and that she could read to him after we got home).
The gathering was at FeralFriend's beautiful home, which includes a cat sanctuary. The cats who are used to being outdoors have a cool screened-in area with lots of shelves and high walkways for them to use. They were a bit shy with all of the people around, but they were obviously happy and healthy. There are also special areas inside the home for some lucky FELV-positive cats. For more info on and photos of the sanctuary, see www.shadowcats.net.
We met many wonderful people, including some we had seen at the spring fundraiser. My daughter got to stand up and talk about what it has been like having Khan in our home, and she really enjoyed the positive and supportive reactions she got. Thanks for FeralFriend for inviting us and letting us be a part of such a great group of people.
Welcome!
This blog was created in honor of Khan, the Warrior Cat, to provide his fans with updates and information on his progress. Khan was rescued by Shadow Cats in Round Rock, Texas in 2006, after being hit by a car and found wandering the highway. He underwent several surgeries performed by Dr. Roy Smith at the Central Texas Cat Hospital to restore his smashed jaw, remove his damaged eye, and restore mobility. He still had damaged ears from years of infections, neurological problems, only two teeth, and spinal injuries that affected his gait, but he had a great spirit. He got to know many people, and many others heard his story, during the time he stayed at Shadow Cats and the two years during which we were blessed to have him in our home. This blog is dedicated to them, to all of those involved in his rescue, and to anyone who has helped a cat in desperate need.
