Welcome!

This blog was created in honor of Khan, the Warrior Cat, to provide his fans with updates and information on his progress. Khan was rescued by Shadow Cats in Round Rock, Texas in 2006, after being hit by a car and found wandering the highway. He underwent several surgeries performed by Dr. Roy Smith at the Central Texas Cat Hospital to restore his smashed jaw, remove his damaged eye, and restore mobility. He still had damaged ears from years of infections, neurological problems, only two teeth, and spinal injuries that affected his gait, but he had a great spirit. He got to know many people, and many others heard his story, during the time he stayed at Shadow Cats and the two years during which we were blessed to have him in our home. This blog is dedicated to them, to all of those involved in his rescue, and to anyone who has helped a cat in desperate need.

Medicine Finished!

Khan has been on twice a day Clavamox and once a day Marbofloxacin since his surgery (to ward off infection), but today was his final day of the medication. We took him into the clinic for a scheduled recheck, and the doctor on call said that his ear looked very good.

The bad news is that he hasn't been eating well since the surgery and he has lost nearly two pounds. I knew that he hadn't been eating as much dry food as normal (because the surgery affected his mouth on the left side), but I hadn't realized he had lost so much weight. So we are going to try feeding him more canned food meals, which he does still eat, and they gave us some appetite stimulants if we want to try those.

In spite of this setback, the surgery truly has done him good. He is acting more "cat-like:" playing with toys, coming out to find sunbeams to lay in, following us around for attention. He has also been jumping up on furniture that we thought he could no longer manage because of his arthritis. So overall, the operation seems to have been a good thing.

He goes back in two weeks for a weight check, and to make sure no bacteria have sneaked up in the ear.
